+ How do vaccines help?

Vaccinations are used in many species, including humans, and they all work with a similar principle. The goal is to boost the body’s immune system so it is better able to fight off infections should they come into contact with the relevant disease. By using a controlled exposure to particular viruses and bacteria, we ensure that your cat’s immunity is best primed to protect itself.

The best way to prevent the diseases below is to vaccinate and to do so annually. The cat’s immune system is not exposued enough to the diseases to ensure long held immunity, so we need to keep the body’s system topped up and as safe as possible. Along with the vaccination is a comprehensive health examination and check carried out in the clinic so you can be assured that your cat’s health is as good as we can make it together.

+ When should cats be vaccinated?

The timing and frequency of cat vaccinations can vary based on a number of factors, including your cat's age, overall health, and lifestyle. Generally, kittens should receive their first vaccinations at around eight weeks of age, followed by booster shots every few weeks until they are around 16 weeks old. Adult cats may require vaccinations every one to three years to maintain protection against disease.

+ How long does the treatment take?

The health examination and administering the vaccination takes about 15 minutes. If you have any concerns these may take longer to understand and diagnose.

+ How many visits are required?

For a primary course of vaccinations this will require 2 visits to give the maximum protection.

For booster vaccinations these will be carried out annually. If your cat has over-run, or not been vaccinated before then a total vaccination course will be needed to restart the program.
