Weight Clinic
Weight clinics are run by our lovely nursing team as a further way to support your pet’s health. Pets carrying additional weight are at a higher risk of many health conditions such as heart disease and cancer. It can also make other chronic conditions worse, such as arthritis and cruciate/joint disease. The nursing team will guide you through the process, from calculating your pet’s ideal weight through to helping to make adjustments in order to achieve this. This process is bespoke to you and your pets routine and activity levels.

How can it help?
Working out a pet’s calorie requirements can be tricky and many owners do not feel confident to do this. The pet food world and all the information around this topic can also be very overwhelming, along with typical worries of your pet’s hunger levels/treat allowances. These are just a few of the reasons that many owners struggle to start and stick to a weight loss program. The nurse will not only get you started but will also provide ongoing follow up support, adjusting things are needed until your pet has achieved and maintained their weight goals.

Osteoarthritis Clinic
These clinics are aimed at the lovely older generation of pets or for pets with early onset osteoarthritis from injury or joint disease. Osteoarthritis is inevitable in all older pets, with some finding it more difficult to cope with than others. Our aim is to give them the best quality of life possible using a collaborative approach. Therefore, these nurse clinics are often run alongside medical interventions carried out by our vets. We aim to give you pointers and adjustments to your pet’s lifestyle and home in order to reduce their discomfort levels.

Some very simple adjustments around the home, or slight changes to your routine can make a huge difference to pets suffering with this condition. The nurses will use a questionnaire and discussion to understand your pet’s lifestyle and home as best as possible before giving any advice. It can help by reducing a pet’s discomfort levels and aiding in their mobility. Pets that feel physically unstable tend to become anxious, so you may find they become less anxious with some little adjustments.

How can it help?
Most pets only visit the clinic when they are in pain, poorly or in need of a vaccine, so it’s no wander many pets dislike the vets. Its upsetting for pet’s, owners, and us when a pet is worried to come into practice. With socialisation clinics we aim to outweigh the negative visits with positive ones, gaining their trust. The nurses will use treats, toys, cuddles and chats with your pet to establish a bond with them. This has been hugely successful with previously worried patients now running into clinic!
